Everything seems to be black now - can you still get silver stems, handlebars and seatposts?

If you're putting a new groupset onto an old steel frame what size clamp do you need for the front mech?

Thanks all

Black? Pah! White is the new black!

I like the idea of black and white as a contrast, the new white frame I have is going to have black forks, seatpost, saddle, chainset etc. Beauty, eye of beholder and all that:biggrin:

I'm still not sure which way to go so to speak. I've a white frame and silver rims so thought I might get silver stem and seatpost. The groupset only comes black though. Oh it's all so complicated!!

I can't help but feel (hope?) that at some point in the near future the component designers will look at all their black components and realise that they have made a terrible taste error and everything will be silver again. As far as white saddles and bar tape go .... shudders ..

Presumably the current black fashion is down to trying to pretend all the bits are carbon fibre.

For your bonus question I believe the normal clamp size for old steel frames is 28.6mm but don't hold me to it!

It would sound about right as the seat post is probably 27 - 27.2mm and this allows 0.7 - 0.8 mm for wall thickness.

If you scroll to the bottom then Sheldon Brown reckons most steel frames have ODs of 28.6mm too.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
You can be sure that our taste will be manipulated soon/ish - once we all have black/or white components silver or similar variations will be promoted for us to lust over - meanwhile if you can't wait you could always get yourself some Nitromors and fine steel wool. (Actually if you look hard enough there are 'silver' components out there - seatposts stems and bars, anyway).
