Signal messaging service on Xubuntu

I have installed the Signal messaging service on my laptop which uses the Xubuntu OS.
In order to use it I need to link my laptop by scanning in a QR code, which it can't do.

The QR code contains this link:
sgnl://linkdevice?uuid=Mk8H84xLrTRjXtg0YVghdQ&pub_key=BRZ8swWkEsORiJE9iS7A%2FI69pLmTwG%2BR259tnaEQxiI8

Does anybody know if there is anything that I can substitute for 'sgnl' to activate the link using a browser?

You need to scan the QR code on your phone using the Signal app, this then signs the laptop into your account.

Yes - my phone can't scan QR codes.

Have you tried pasting the sgnl URL into your browser URL bar? It may then launch the Signal app to link your account.

It doesn't recognise the 'sgnl://' part which is why I posted the original question

I see. You might find that if it were an actual link embedded in a webpage (rather than you pasting directly into the URL bar) it would open if you tapped on it, but that's a bit of a faff.
