Late at night, thought I'd give the bike a clean and found that my brakes were a bit wobbly (they were going from side to side as well as forwards and backwards). Just assumed that they needed tightened onto the frame so I removed one of the calipers to reveal the nut, tightened it and now I can't get the damn caliper to sit right.

This is what it looks like, it's the one on the left in case you can't tell -

Got no idea how to realign the caliper, it's annoying me.

That looks very odd. Sorry I cannot be anymore helpful than that. (Late at night so just tired)

Put your wheel in flick the black thing down then redo your break cable (i can see the gap from here) and then do adjustmant.

PS took my wheel out and one side of the break caliper moves to get the wheel in and out easier, Yours is currently open.

The left caliper should be covering the nut in the middle that mounts the brakes to the frame but for the life of me, I can't get it to sit properly.

It should look like this

I also like that when you Google 'b'twin side pull brakes', the first thing that comes up is my picture

You tightened up the hex key in the middle to remove play presumably?

To do that you must have undone the nut on front arm and removed that arm.

You made a small error when putting it back in that the middle lever falls down on the front lever - at the moment it is underneath trying to move up.

You need take the front lever off again and then position the arm with the cable adjuster above the arm you just took off and then pop that arm back on so that it slides under the central lever at the point where that screw is.

Sorry, is there any chance you could explain it so a newbie can understand? Not really understanding it

I'll try.

Take the front arm off.

You will see a little ledge at the rear immediately to the left of the hex bolt.

With a bit of luck there will be a dot of steel on the top of that ledge or marks in the metal.

The screw from the middle lever has to rest on that ledge as it is doing in your last photo..
