Looking for a lightweight showerproof jacket, need something that's not going to make me wetter from the inside than I'll get from the out (as I 'run a bit hot' so some venting and or breathability is crucial), and as it will only be worn in 'caught in the showers' type scenario small and light (for cycling to/from work), and to add to that cash is tight right now - any suggestions?

You maybe want to consider the Montane featherlite, I find it very breathable and because of size (small & light) I always carry it and it doesn't cost too much.

montane featherlite. I keep it in its little bag behind the saddle, can't tell it's there.

'tis actually fairly warm(-ish) and windproof despite its small size.

I use the Montane Featherlite for all my cycling needs, as has been mentioned it is a warm jacket even in the depths of winter with just a shirt underneath. As for it being showerproof, mine was OK a couple of times but is now as much use as a collinder as water goes straight through it, perhaps I have worn it too much for what it was not designed for. But at least when you do get a good soaking it dries very fast.

I was going to waterproof it again yesterday with "Thompsons water seal" which is what I do all my bags and tents with but it is not breathable so it would become very hot inside and steamy inside

...thus wet due to sweat, thus defeating the point of being waterproof.
As are garments that are more waterproof in the first place.
There's always a trade off.
Rich is probably right that it's only showerproof, but its main purpose is just to keep that chill off when it starts spitting.

Have you tried the Nikwax breathable waterproof spray? Re-proofs it. Also I've heard other people swear by the Nikwax TX? in-wash re-proofer. Anyone tried that?

Thanks for the help, however I was at TK max the other day and found a Howies showerproof, very similar to the above but grey with a reflective stripe, 135g only for 20 notes, so that one it was!
