Should I save my money for a new road bike or use it on a Zwift trainer?

Kind of torn about what to use my money on. The winter is already in its peak so it wouldn't be much use for this year if i got a trainer.

I am hoping in getting into some competitions this summer. So would it be more beneficial to save up for a better road bike?

zwift is not a prerequisite for race fitness

Best getting a 'reasonable' smart Trainer. Tacx have one for £200 and with a bit of discounting, and waiting for sales, mine was £140. No need to spend a fortune, it won't make you faster.

Would a £50 one work with zwift though?

Yes. The only thing you need to use Zwift is a dumb trainer plus an ANT+ speed/cadence sensor and an ANT+ dongle for your computer.

A "smart" trainer will measure your power output but be aware that a lot of so-called smart trainers such as Bkool are only estimating your power extrapolated from other metrics.

you need to 'feel the hills' .... feel gravity, feel the headwind .... enjoy the downhills, enjoy the strong winds pushing you

use your current bike in the good and bad of winter, and save up till spring for a better bike... dress warm though ... Last year, I cycled as much as I could during winter, and am glad that I did

not saying that Zwift is bad ..... but only use it when the weather is really bad
