…That is the question.

I have a 2007 Orange Crush hard tail with Fox 36 Var R forks as the only factory upgrade.

The bike is in dire need of a proper service as the previous place I took it for a 'service' I don't think it was properly serviced. Then again what is a service?

The forks need to be serviced at Mojo and I thought while they are off getting some treatment, I would send the frame off to get re-sprayed a different colour at Orange (i know this is a service they offer). When I get those bits back I thought I would upgrade some parts, brakes, wheels, handlebar etc… Probably totalling about £6-700 approx.

Or shall I just put that money towards a new bike?

Depends how much you like the bike.

If I had that money and a decent frame I'd certainly upgrade for the idea of having a unique bike.
That was my thinking also. Having something unique and special. Yes, I do like the bike and frame.

I am in a village on the beds bucks border.

I'd look at upgrading too if you like the frame. The caveat being that a 2007 Crush is pretty dated, and personally I'd struggle to justify all that being spent on it. I don't know what the Orange paint job would cost, but I'm guessing at £150. You could have it powder coated for a lot less, but have to sort out and fit a decal kit. You'd recoup some cash selling the OE kit, and if I were you I'd look for quality used components or internet bargains to build it back up. A used set of decent Hope Hoops for example you'll find for £150-200, or pay that and get some Superstar Components Switch wheels brand new. I'd fit Deore 615 brakes for about £75. Chain Reaction have some cheap bars and stems, so another £50, unless you want Superstar bling. I'd change the chainset as well, (I'm not a great fan of Truvativ,) and again, you'll get some decent 9 speed SLX or XT cranks (used) for £50-£60, (add £25 for shifters if the originals are knackered) and £25 for a 9 speed cassette. You could have a custom specc'd beaut for about £400, plus the cost of tyres. Less of course what eBay nets you for the original kit.

I see what you are saying there. I guess it all comes down to, how much do I really want to spend on the bike and how much longer am I going to keep the bike for me to get the enjoyment out of the new parts before I realise I want a new bike etc….

Yes, a bike respray at Orange is £150 (£200 for full suspension). If I do decide to go ahead I would purchase new items. I have bought good second hand items before they did not last as long. Its not worth the hassle.

17 in frame, lime green on ebay for less than £ 250 - buy that and sell yours and you'll be quids in regards a respray.

unless the frame is special or the bike has sentimental attachment, it probably is not worth spending on it.

As your frame is 7 years old, you should get it checked out, make sure that all the braze points are still sound and the frame is still true, his all depends how hard a life the frame has had and what discipline's it has been used for and indeed what you intend to use it for, if you do upgrade.
