Hi

I want to swap out my silver/plain metal bike wheel rims for all black. See:

https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/wheelsb...-28h-with-bwr-3-speed-hub-minimods-rim-black/

But should i be concerned the brake pad surface will wear down and rub off the black coating ?
Are there standards or quality issues i should check / ask about before purchase ?

If any one else has experience of all colour bike wheel rims - appreciate any advice or comment.

Cheers.

Until they invent a darker colour black is the best colour by far, (ducks behind sofa for incoming objects).

Not had those rims but you will get wear on the rim but it's still going to be dark.

I remember from your previous thread you want to change your silver wheels to black. Seems an expensive way to do it if the SA hub is okay. What about buying new black rims if available and having them laced on? Or do you want all black?
Any treated black aluminium rims I've ever had the black has worn off.

Thanks folks
@cyclops - I'm reccying around to understand how black a wheel can go in terms of staying black / the coating not coming off as it's a science i don't know much about.

I have some options - ie coating current wheels, purchasing ready-made , building from sourced parts - and i've got a guy who'll do the builds and coating so i'm / we're learning about the worthwhile of it all.
BUT
- yes ideally i would like all black wheels for nothing more than my London about town bike where aesthetics has a place - re: its not for rough riding.
Folks feedback is helping build the full picture. ALso i was walking around town yesterday and i couldn't help noticing just how many black wheel rims there were on bikes scooting thro the streets - seems to be popular - but maybe they are used with disc brakes ?
