Lost it, got it again.
Thought I would get a quick blast in on the MTB before work this morning as I thinks its going to be a long day.

So I set off. Brilliant sunshine and a nice breeze. Perfect. Trying out my new cycling glasses, they are great.

Im making good time, knowingly faster and in better gears that I normal do this route. Lovely.

I can feel my legs working better, feeling more powerful from the road cycling I think.

Then it starts.

First I fall off. Only going 3-4mph, but I misjudge a root and slip. Nothing damaged or hurt.

Then my chain comes off as Im trying some up-hill grinding in a high gear. Thank God for no real cross bar on my BSO!

A mile later I try a small jump off some rocks. Land it, but my saddle shoots down, knocking me off balance and I fall again.

Get back on and notice the front wheel/forks are now not aligned correctly with the handlebars.

Then on the way back home I notice its hard work on a hill, look back and the back is flat as a pancake. Stop, wheel off, puncture repaired and thorn removed.

Set off, about 1/2 mile later think the back is dragging, so look back and ANOTHER puncture. This time, what looks like a wire twist off a barb-wire fence. Wheel off, new tube on (ran out of patches), pumped up and set off.

1/2 mile form home, back on the road and start to wind up speed for a roundabout over a main road. Power into it when clear and the back wheel "pops" out of alignment. I didnt tighten the nuts properly. Stop, fix that.

Limped home throughly dejected and in a great mood for ripping someone a new one at work.

Sorry, just had to rant.

PS> Im covered in cow s*** too.

I thought I had a bad journey but your morning really took the last crumbs of the biscuit.

Just call me Chris...
Sorry to hear you had such a bad one, especially after such a promising start.

On the plus side, at least you got some fresh air! (small compensation I know!)

Yup, the crumbs from the tin of biscuits!

The actual ride was great, felt really good doing it too. Even the final 1/2 mile after I sorted the back wheel was quick and easy. Got a lot in reserve, so might pop out again later for a blast.

You can always put the Cow sh*t on your garden. Just trying to find a plus.

I feel your frustration. I had a slightly similar, although much less severe, run of troubles on the way home from work last night.

I still have the ongoing problems with the new chainset and not being able to shift into 6+7 on the cassette when in the big ring on the front. Means I can't go past 23 or 25 mph without spinning out, a shame because I love to blast along at 30 on the main road just before home.

There is a moderately steep (7%) hill on the way back which I like to spin up. A lorry in front had stopped half way up as the was a badger on our side with it's head all over the road, I assumed the driver didn't want to run it over any more and waited for a gap in oncoming traffic. Anyway I slow down and then when traffic starts moving again I push off, only then for the rear when to slip out it's dropouts and rub on the chainstay causing me to grind to a halt while still clipped in so I have a big wobble but manage to get my feet out in time and pull over into a driveway.
I put the wheel back and tighten up to what I think is safe only for it to happen again after setting off, another near tumble occurs and I prop myself up on the nearby tall verge.
I finally retreat back to the driveway and tighten up to an even higher value and set off again without much trouble.

I need to make sure that wheel is properly clamped in as it has happened before, always at times when putting pressure on the pedals like when setting off at a junction. Also need to get practice in on SPDs on hills so I don't take an embarrassing tumble when the gradient catches me by surprise.

Thats what my back wheel was doing, the exact same thing - rubbing on the chainstay.

I share your pain.
