So, I bought some 2xu men's thermal compression tights, but it occurred to me I don't know really what I should do with them.

So my question is...should my shorts go under or over these. And would these on their own be good enough to keep my legs warm in winter, or ar they designed to use along side (under/over) other clothing.

Sorry for the silly questions

Do they have a pad? If not then put shorts underneath. Legs don't need much to keep warm in winter, that's your engine. You should be able to fry an egg on your thigh after a 50k ride.

Hmmm....depends on the conditions and how much you feel the cold.

I haven't tried compression tights, but in the depths of winter I often ride with a pair of light weight long johns under my cycle tights - and even then my legs still feel cold when temperatures are around freezing. Also good quality cycle tights, or bib longs, will have offer some wind proofing which I assume you don't get with compression tights.

It also depends how long you are going to be riding for. If you are doing 50k at full pelt you probably will stay warm whereas if you are doing a longer ride at slower speeds you might well want the extra protection and warmth you would get from cycle tights.

I put my bib shorts over my base layer so the base layer trousers don't slip.
Oh, is that the way they're supposed to go?
I tend to where bib shorts/tights, then put my baselayer over the top - that way I can hide the Mexican wrestler look as much as possible!

And for the really cold ones..
compression layer, bib tights, and then the bib shorts. With all that compression on the thighs it feels like you can spin forever with very little fatigue.
