some people cycle to forget and some of us forget to cycle, but one of our members is forgetting and cycling. He's getting on in years, and while he enjoys cycling in the moment, as it were, he really is struggling to remember recent occurences, and sometimes, when loses his way when cycling alone.

Ours is the kind of club which will offer company on the way to the start of rides and home again afterward, but we don't really have the bigger picture. Are any of you able to share your experience of cycling with people who are losing their short term memory, or do you have a professional understanding of these things. A pointer in the direction of an article or a book would be wonderful if you think that's appropriate.

He needs gentlly notifying that he has a problem, and that you are worried about him.

Memory problems can be an indication of many neurological conditions, and perhaps if this person lives alone he isn't aware that there is a problem. His family may have become adjusted to this issue over a period of time, or simply not recognise that it is a problem. Your information may be enough of a stimulus for them to encourage him to seek advice.

You seem to have some intentions of helping him when you are riding with him, which is admirable, however if it is such a problem that clubmates are noticing it, imagine what the problem is like for the rest of the time when you are not with him.

Suggest to him if he accepts he has a problem that he sees his doctor and discusses this with his doctor.
