After about 10 to 15 mins in too a ride I become short of breath . If I ride through it after that time it seems to settle and I can ride normally. Gave up smoking about 11 months ago and have noticed the difference but this problem still occurs. Just find it a bit puzzling

I have no idea but my breathing, like the rest of me, takes a little bit of time to warm up and if it goes away, it's unlikely to be something like excercise induced asthma but it might be. Get thee to your GP if it bothers you and he can sort out a spirometery test and probably put your mind at ease.

I suppose it depends on your definition of short of breath, I'm unfit & I know I go through quite a bad patch 3-5 miles into the ride where I could easily pack in, but pushing through it all comes back to me, I just put it down to my fitness. But as others have said, if it is worrying you go see a quack.

I think I had that when I first started I just put it down to being unfit and my heart but it's all fine now it may happen slightly every now and then if I'm pushing really hard.

Same here Bryony...I had it really bad one winter, when I was pushing myself really hard and I was cycling in temps averaging around 3 degrees above freezing.
I've not really had it since then either although I'm still unfit!!

I think it was just a shock to my system having gone from doing no exercise to jumping on a bike and pedaling!
