Hi all,

getting into cycling after a 20 break! I have a question on bike sizing- I'm 5'8" but have short legs 80cm (31.5") inseam. Looking at sizing charts, i should go for a 53-55 or medium frame based on my hight, but should i have a shorter crank length? or go for the 53 end of the size scale?

My complete measurments are-

5'8" 173cm Tall
80cm (31.5") Inseam (book firm against my crotch  )
59cm (23.5") Torso Length
59cm (23.5") Arm Length
43cm (17") Shoulder width

Also would welcome advice on handle bar sizing, drop etc etc.

many thanks in advance!:hello:

Your best bet is to get down to your nearest bike shop (or go to more than one) and try out, and get test rides on, as many bikes as possible.

The differences in the actual fit of two bikes that are nominally the same size from different manufacturers can have a huge effect on your comfort on the bike. The only way to know what will suit you is to try as many bikes as you can.

Also, try to get 170mm cranks rather than 175mm, which will definitely be too long for you! Ideal length for you is 165/170mm.

I'm over an inch taller than you with about an inch less in the inseam.

I'm on a 54 allez. LBS recommended a 52, but I thought I was too far forward on it so went for the bigger size. I have no regrets. Crank length as standard was 172.5 and again I'm quite happy with that.

Agree with lulubel, get down to a bike shop and let them do a fitting for you.

There are online calculators that will give you an idea like the competitive cyclist one -you could also try putting your own measurements into this.
