Hello,

I ride 7 miles a day most days commuting to and from work. At the moment i am wearing my work shoes to ride in which is not ideal. I am looking for a pair of comfortable commuting shoes that i would be able to wear off the bike as well.

I use toe-clips at the moment but am looking to go clipless at some point so spd compatible is a must. I have had a look at a few websites but can't find anything suitable & not to expensive would be good as well

All suggestions very welcome - thank you!

(btw i ride a specialised crossraods sport)

I've got some Specialised Sonoma shoes. I also use toeclips and I like them because they have a smoothish sole, which you can get in and out of the toeclip easily. They have SPD fittings if you later want to go clipless. I've also used the Shimano trainer type shoes (mine were M030) and found them to be good as well. I think the latest model is MT31 or MT41.

I also bought some shoes from Lidl, that were only £20, ready for when my Sonoma's wear out. The sole on this is a little more ridged but they're great value for money if you can get hold of them.

Shoes are very specific with the widths varying from make to make. I would suggest as a first pair go to a shop with a good range and try a few on. I liked the Sidi's but for comfort ended up with a pair of Scott's which seemed to fit me better.

Thanks for all the responses, very helpful. I am a size 8 does that equate to the size of the cycling shoes?

Yes, but the width fitting of many cycling shoes varies so much that it's a real gamble buying online. For example Shimano SPD shoes were too narow for my feet. There are posts on the Forum suggesting that their trainer style MTB shoes are a wider fit, but my advice would be to try some on at a decent LBS.
