Hosepipe and a brush is the current chosen method given the time of year.

I'd take them to the local pavement shoe shine boy. Just make sure he's not called Joe Pesci.

I've always wiped off any excess dirt with a wet sponge, wait a few minutes for them to dry off, then brush polish. Otherwise if they're not too bad just a good brush polish will do. Any gouges or marks in the leather I'll use a wet duster to layer polish in to the damage.

Occasionally instead of brushes I'll use a wet yellow duster to apply a better layer of polish, like the bulling style used in the military.

I had no idea people used newspaper!

I used to love getting a good shine on my black leather boots or shoes . Spit and cotton wool woked best .Now I use this ....
