Shipping bikes abroad

i have a potential buyer for one of my bikes but he's in the states.
A few years back I could send a bike into Europe for about 30quid, just had a quote for this one at 200 quid!
Yeas I realise America is further away but it's still quite a price hike

Anyone got any suggestions or recommendations ?

@paul-kent i have had the same trouble a couple of times and never have found much cheaper

but then i sold one last week to an American holidaying in the UK who is taking it back with him as extra luggage at no cost with Virgin !!!

Courier prices are awful to and from the States. wanted to buy a rc boat from the US. boat $450.00 courier $260.00. So i passed on that one.

I would suggest whoever is receiving the bike takes a very close look at what customs charges they will have to pay for receiving something from outside the EU. I recently had to pay customs charges of $24 that was valued at $2. All my purchasesxwill be coming from inside the EU in future.
