After cracking the rim on my rear wheel, I've invested in a shiny new set of Fulcrum 7 wheels.

Fitted them today and they go round and everything

Only issue is when I stop peddaling the racket from the free wheel is even drowning out the creaking from my knees, and the sound of me gasping for breath.

Is this normal? will the clicking reduce to levels that don't scare horses after some wear? or is it just some evil plot to make me pedal ALL the time.

Hugi hubs did this, not sure if they still do but I take your point - that noise can be quite infernal.

I feel it should lessen.

Campag hubs do that. It is the re-assuring sound of a well engineered freewheel mechanism, as opposed to some Japanese thing made of chewing gum.

Why, have the Japanese got chewing gum out. competition for
wrigleys ?

The deafening noise from Camag freehubs is to reassure you that the pawls are still intact and haven't disintegrated into a fine powder, which they are prone to do every winter.

Or Hope. Watching the circuit race in Blackpool last week there were 2 riders from the Hope Team on the rare occasion that they freewheeled the noise was deafening and instantly recognisable.

Try putting more grease onto the pawls worked on my Pro II's.

Yes, the peds at the red lights always turn to check me (or is it the bike?) out because of the noise of the Campag freewheel. On my first test ride, I asked the LBS if there was a problem with the freewheel
