Talking chains with my LBS guy recently. He told me to buy a KMC SL ( 10 speed ) to replace my Ultegra when it is due for change.
He said the KMC altho actually slightly lighter has a longer service life. Heres the thing. The cost ( Ribble ) of Ultegra is approx £22, cost of KMC SL is approx £40. Question - is the KMC that much better ? ie I can get 2 Shimanos for bit more than 1 KMC. Any advice most welcome. Ta for sensible replies ( and amusing ones ).

I have no great faith in Shimano chains. The bikes I have came with Shimano, but they never seem to last long. I use KMC or SRAM as a preference.

I've bought KMC chains from various ebay sellers & all have been fine. You can save yourself upto £10 on your chain
They seem to run smoother & last longer than Shimano

In 15 years regular cycling the only chains I've ever snapped have been Shimano. I'm a SRAM or KMC guy these days.

Is there a web-site ? Are they cheap ?
Powerlink ?? Is that the connector link for
easy removal?

You are a fair judge Steve Austin. Looked at Merlin.
The KMC-SL is much cheaper there than anywhere else I`ve looked at. £30 for 1. 2 for £54.
Excellent. Ta for that.

Same thing really. SRAM call theirs a powerlink, KMC call it a missing link. Oh, the SRAM one isn't re-usable though if it's the 10 speed one whereas the KMC is. Something to keep in mind (and the reason I moved to KMC when I went 10spd).
