Could someone tell me if the Shimano Uniglide chains use the special Shimano joining pins or do they use a parallel pin that simply pushes in with a chain tool.
I need a new chain for my Ridgeback, 6 speed freewheel, Shimano SIS. I have a new freewheel, now I just need a chain. It is a toss up between a KMC chain or this Shimano one.

Thanks.

The SRAM 8 speed chain with the silver quicklink will save you a lot of bother. There aren't any 6 speed chains any more, 8 speed covers any number down to 5. Just shorten it to required length and click, job done. It comes off fairly easily for cleaning too.
Most modern chains have pins which are "peened", ie the end is flattened to stop it pulling through. The first time you use a chain tool on it that pin is knackered. The old type didn't have this problem because they were a tight interference fit.

TBH, just get the KMC one. Big Shimano fan here, but it's KMC chains for all bikes...except Dura Ace for the Dura Ace bike. KMC chains are very very good.
