a friends bike has Ultegra 6600 shifters which are broken. Can he go straight to 105 5700 shifters but keep the Ultegra mechs?

I have heard there is some slight difference in cable pull, or that the front mech spring might not be strong enough. Does anyone know if it will work?

I would say that they will work ok. Have a look at this compatibility chart that another member posted a few days ago.....

Not sure of the part numbers, but when the 10 speed Ultegra shifters broke on my bike Last year I replaced them with 10 speed 105, and haven't had any problems.

I frequently mix and match Ultegra and 105. If the number of sprockets in the cassette is the same, the negligible difference in the spring dimensions in the mechs, makes bugger all difference.
