I had a spoke go (with an almighty bang) on my not-quite-two-months-old Shimano RS20 rear wheel last Thursday morning.

A day later, a workmate who - as I found out on the Thursday - rides the same bike, with the same wheelset, had a rear spoke go on his two-month old wheel.

He's seriously fit and probably about 5 stone lighter than me, so it's good to know that my fears of too much weight were NOT to blame! He's been told by the shop he bought them from that the RS20s are notorious for breaking spokes, and that replacement spokes are like gold dust.

Anyone else experienced any RS20 spoke-related issues?

(Mine is back at CRC for repair or replacement right now).

No, but with someone who has the same wheels on his winter bike, you've got me worried! Mine also came from CRC a few months back, when they were on special offer

Heard from CRC today - they've returned the wheel to their supplier to get a repair/replace decision, and apparently it could take up to or OVER 21 days before I hear. They say they'll contact me in three weeks' time....

Good job I've kept the original wheelset that came with the bike, or else I may have been off the bike for quite some time!

I had a spoke go on my rear RS20 a few months ago, I was putting a sprint on up a small hill at the time when it happened. It took a few days to get a new spoke ordered delivered and fitted by my LBS and there was a small problem in that they couldn't get any red nipples so I have an odd black one on the back. Just in case I ordered a handful of spare spokes and nipples because my LBS do not stock RS20 spokes. The wheels been fine since and has covered around a further 1200miles and loads of hills. A mate of mine who is 2 stone heavier than me (I'm just over 11 stone) also has RS20's with no spoke problems....
