How reliable are quick-links?

I got a new chain today and it came with one. In the past I've used connecting pins and never had any problems with them, and I'm reluctant to try the link because they look so flimsy. But the idea of being able to take the chain off for cleaning is appealing.

So should I stick with the pins, or embrace the quick-links?

BTW, Shimano HG40 chain from CRC for just £6.99 delivered. And that includes the cost of a box so ludicrously large they could have put 20 chains in there!

As an experiment I ran my the chain on my hybrid to snapping point; probably not very scientific but it was a pin link rather than a quicklink that snapped.

Another stupid point my mate insisted on getting a 105 chain; I went round and fitted it for him, he was really impressed I had fitted it in minutes; then I noticed that I had thread it round the wrong side of the dérailleur cage retainer  opening it and closing it was a pain and it made a weak joint which snapped a few weeks later. I wasn't available to fix it so he took it to a lbs who fitted a quick link.
