shimano press fit bottom bracket

its on my new giant defy which as covered about 2 to 300 miles max
on the crank side of the bracket you can see straight in into the hollow tube.

is it just some sort of dust cap that i have lost?

Presuming this on the non-drive side?

If so then it's how it is. Nothing to protect inside there so no cover needed.

ive also just noticed the bike was advertised as being built with a shimano r565 but as a gossamer fsa. Has the bike shop pulled a quickie by supplying my bike with cheaper parts?

I think it the drive side that may not have anything there. The non-drive side should have the tensioner to pull the cranks tight on the BB. I'm guessing that the Defy has something similar to the Hollowtech or whatever the FSA version is.
