Shimano PD-R540 SPD SL - cleats

I've ordered these pedals and just thought, will my existing shoes and cleats work with them? I have Shimano shoes with what I call the standard cleats for two sided SPD pedals.

You'll need shoes that can take SPD SL cleats, and some SPD SL cleats.

You'll need shoes that can take SPD SL cleats, and some SPD SL cleats.

The cleats will come with the pedals but it doesn't sound like they'll fit his shoes.

I used to use SL's but the difference between them and SPD's with a stiff pair of shoes is minimal, so I've standardised to SPD's on all my bikes.

Auto-correct on phone. They are M088. With the SM-SH56 cleats.

2 hole Trail / MTB shoes / cleats, they won't work.

These take either the MTB cleats, or the SPD SL Cleats, these would work, with both types of cleats / pedals.
