Don’t you love it when things just work and don’t complain.

Got these on all my bikes and the oldest is now circa 16 years old. It had developed a little play but spun quietly and obediently.

Opened it up for the third time, Cleaned, regreased and reassembled with correct adjustment. Butter smooth.

Might treat them to some new bearings the next time - 2030 or thereafter.

I think you're on track! I still have a pair of original Deore XT 737's which have been in semi regular use (by me) since, umm, about 1992 when I bought them second hand, already well used. Im not sure when they came out but I'd guess 1989 or so which would put them at 35 years old, god knows how many grotty miles. I've regreased them a few times but can't remember ever replacing the bearings. They look like this (not mine, internet pic):
