Good morning, we have a Shimano hub geared tandem, and the gears won't align properly. On the newer versions there's a window where you can see the two yellow marks line up, but on this old one of ours I can only see one, which is where 4th gear is, as per repair instructions

Any idea how I find the 2nd yellow mark (or even if there is one) or how to align the gears properly, please?

This is the view on our bike...

Thanks in advance.

Firstly, I'm no expert with these gears but I have adjusted one or two at the bike charity where I volunteer. Usually, like you say, there are two yellow markers but you only appear to have one appearing in what seems to be a 'window'. If you're in 4th gear then my guess is that yellow marker should be where it is in the photo. However, and this is just an observation, the cable appears to be showing signs of age/wear. It might be this that's causing your problems. Try YouTube and see if they have a video for your particular Nexus hub gear adjustment or cable changing.

Thank you, I've ordered a new cable. The old one kept jumping out of the (rear) holder, which didn't help. I ordered some new gear cable pinches from eBay ascites highly possible the old one is worn. When they arrived, however, they're too big and the washer on the pinches won't slide over to keep the cable in place!

Discovered there are two yellow marks on the back, but they're part of the same 'cog' so don't line up side-by-side. Perhaps they're for different viewing angles (one is higher up than the other) or a 'belts and braces' affair in case you miss one of them.

Anyhow, it's temporarily back together now, thanks again for the reply and good shout on the cable.
