hi,
Intermittently (under power -starting off /going up hill) my pedals will 'spin' a little - ¼ turn or so
I bought a new chain & cassette because although it still looks good I thought the chain was worn and was jumping teeth.
But yesterday this turned into two whole pedal revolutions 'free wheeling' forwards before it worked again, at that point I decided it's the freehub ratchet that gone kaput.
That's the history, now the question.
The wheel hubs are branded 'Scott' but the drive train is Shimano, will a replacement Shimano freehub fit?
It's a cheap wheel so I may just buy a whole replacement wheel.
thanks
Adrian

no, a shimano freehub wont fit - sounds like a knackered freehub as you say
even if you could find a replacement freehub that would fit, they are usually ridiculously expensive, often as much as the entire rear hub (which includes the freehub anyway).

Sounds like the hubs will be Chinese made - they are made cheap and cheerful with no spares usually available.

As a long shot you could take the freehub off and see if the pawls are exposed. It might be that some muck has got in and is sticking to the pawls so only a clean is needed.

The problem is that you don't want it to recur when you are miles from anywhere - so I'd agree on the new wheel as well. Make sure you get a shimano hub.

thanks for you advice, I think I'll go for a new wheel. Even if I do manage to clean out the gunk, I'll take the hint that it's on borrowed time.
It's been a long hard winter. :cold:
