Shimano Freehub inter-compatibility

Another random question from me

My rear hub is

Shimano XT Disc Hub Rear M756

I also ended up with a spare one of these

Shimano FH-RM30 Complete Freehub Body 8-Speed

I would like to know if the spare freehub will fit, or if I should send it back. The document below is gobble-di-gook to me

Your spare freehub will definitely not fit the M756 rear hub, but this will.

Shimano freehubs are generally compatible as long as you are dealing with the same hub interface and you can adjust the seal.

The usual one is a male star shape on the hub which fits into the female star shape in the freehub

This is the type you need.

Later Shimano disc hubs had a slightly different design the slot was sunken in the hub and protrudes in the freehub.

Others had a totally different interface - like the FH RM30 - which is not compatible
