On replacing the gear cable incorrectly, I decided the only way to get it out again was to dissamble the shifter. As you know, some such manoeuvres work and rest are a disaster - I'm in the latter category unfortunately.
The shifter, being at least ten years old, is very difficult to get in stock and, where it seems to be in stock, the price looks quite high to someone who hasn't bought a shifter without a bike connected to it.
I did buy this, thinking from the description that it was for a pair, but what actually arrived was the right-hander: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333224202922?var=542236924127
The question is would a kind soul recommend a compatible shifter.
