I have just bought a new cassette from an online seller. It is a Shimano CS-HG41-8. Holding it by the largest sprocket there is slight movement in the other sprockets in a circular direction. It is only very slight, and bearing in mind that the cassette is not mounted on a hub or fastened with the locking ring is this little movement normal. I have never noticed it on other cassettes I have bought.

I think this cassette is bolted together by a single bolt, threaded into the largest gear, off the hub this would allow movement. On the hub each gear is held in place by the splines, so will not be able to move independently.
