Shimano cassette compatibility....

Hi gang....

Quick question. Are all Shimano 10 speed HG cassettes compatible? In other words, does it matter if the cassette is Ultegra 6700, 105 5600, Tiagra 4600, and so on. So long as they're all Shimano, HG and 10 speed? With the appropriate chain of course.

Not sure about the new 10speed MTB ones - but all the Shimano 10 speed road stuff is compatible.

Well as I found out on the SMRbtH last weekend. 105 works very well with Ultegra

As above, but you can also use SRAM 10 speed cassettes as well on Shimano freehubs. I have one on my C'dale
I also use a Shimano cassette on my Ribble even though the rest of the drivetrain is Campag and it's fine

Trying to work out what works with what is very confusing! My Velocity has a budget Shimano HG 8-speed, and trying to sort out a rear cassette I really like has been much harder than it need be due to a lack of clear information on the subject. Fortunately my LBS pointed me in the right direction, but it's been quite a faff.
