My chain is now starting to come of my hybrid with 8 speed (or is it 7) shimano alfine gears. I have adjusted the chainring as much as possible to tension the chain. But I think it's time for a new one.

A few questions though.
What difference will getting more or less teeth on the new sproket have?
I assume I get a single speed chain, I was thinking of getting this one Izumi Standard Track Chain along with a suitable sproket.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A smaller sprocket on the rear would make the gearing higher - harder to pedal.

A larger sprocket on the rear would make the gearing lower - easier to pedal.

It makes sense to keep the same size, unless you are desperately unhappy with the gearing as it is.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'adjusted the chainring', but the chain shouldn't be coming off, so something's not quite right.

Post some accurate details of the bike and you might get a few more replies.
