Shimano 105/Tiagra compatibility

I was about to order a new Tiagra groupset to add to my winter bike when i noticed that Merlin are doing the 105 STI shifters for £100, which is the same price as Tiagra ones. I believe they are compatible but could someone confirm that the 105 shifters are compatible with the rest of the Tiagra groupset?

Also the 105 shifters say complete with inner gear cables only. i take it this means i will need to buy brake cables?

For info it's going on a 2012 Specialized allez frame with external cable routing.

I have a bike I built with Tiagra 10 speed with 105 shifters it's absolutely fine.
