Why do they allow various incremental settings via a ratchet system on the quick release lever of the brake calipers? The other brakes I used to have were simply open, and closed.
I first thought that it was so the brakes could be adjusted to their optimal settings at home, leaving the quick release levers a few 'clicks' from the fully closed position, therefore, allowing quick and easy adjustment to be made 'on-the-go'. For instance, if you need more bite on the brakes in the wet, you just use those extra few clicks to bring the blocks closer to the rims. But, wouldn't you just do that with the barrel adjusters on the brakes? As for taking the wheel out, you could just click to open or closed, no need for ratcheting.
