I used to run 9 sp. no probs but have gone to 10 both Shimano.

Ive 105 levers & 105 s.cage rear mech, the prob is this;

From the left, the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th all hesitate when going up (to a bigger sprocket) not going down (to smaller) - this is majorly frustrating when in a race like situ. as i need to go up 2 to get 1 effectively, at times...

Tho if i alter the cable tension it can get better slightly but is pretty much the same.

The chains fine on length, cables ok, everywhere's lubricated good etc....

Could this be down to the gear hanger bent slightly ??

Has anyone else got an opinion of help on this at all....

Appreciation on thoughts towards this ;)

I'd say yes, bent hanger as a first suspect.

I'll tell everyone what the problem turned out to be: I put together a block and in that block, there was some 9sp sprockets and so the ramping system was 'wrong'; yes Shimano in all their god forsaken dexterity have made it so you HAVE to use 9/10 or whatever Speed you're on. So to get a 16 + an 18 on a 10sp cassette - you have to spend 40 quid! A taking the #### move imo.

Arent the chains different sizes for 10sp to make sure you can fit the extra bits in? Kind of makes sense to me I'm afraid.

I have a 10 sp. chain.

Thats my point, you've been trying to use it on 9sp casette rings?

Wrong - 8, 9 & 10 sprockets are the same width: check out on the PDF's via the shimano site.....its the spacers that are the different widths - guess if shimano could instrument that they would - but i dont think thats financially feasable fo them, They must makes billions of sprocket rings and that'd be WAY TOO MUCH of a labour instensive situ.

Ramping won't make any difference. Sprockets witih no ramps still shift up/down no problem. Maybe you used the wrong spacers.

Erm, Shimano, Campag and SRAM, and just about any other obscure manufacturer use different spacers between the sprockets on different set ups, you numpty.

You could get away with a 3.1mm to 3.0mm change on 7/8 speed stuff, not 9,10, 11

I could run 7 speeds on 3.0mm spacers (nice shiney Dura Ace 8 speed) but you aren't getting away with that with 4 extra sprockets...

Back to the old days when you could assemble your own cassette - the reason the bloody thing was invented. Now you have to change the lot. Progress my botty.

Campag vary the spacing in their cassettes.

Shimano don't, relying on the swing angle of the derailleur.

'you numpty'

You can and i do, put a cassette together...if you dont buy a cassette with an alu. carrier at the top end.

All the best Fossyant!
