Does anyone know where I can get hold of some shellac rim cement, as used for retaining tubulars? The more modern types are not suitable for my present purpose.

Contact British Cycling or CTT. They must know of a source due to the fact that their teams particularly BC track squad must glue on their tubulars.

Thanks for the replies. I think that probably most riders use alternative adhesives today. I haven't managed to find any evidence in web searches of anyone selling the stuff. Might have to see if I can get the raw materials and mix my own!

This is the stuff I use:

VELOX JANTEX TUBULAR TAPE. Double sided adhesive rim tape to secure the tubulars to rims without the use of rim cement. Each roll is enough to do two wheels.

Costs £1.5-ish. I'll ask at the LBS if he has what you're after.

Have a word with your local french polisher to see if you can get the shellac flakes. I think rim cement is a blend of castor oil, shellac and meths.

Thanks for the further replies (and for the very interesting link, jasper!). I did try using off-the-shelf French Polish, but it didn't seem to be very adhesive - possibly too much meths and not enough Castor oil. Some flakes from a French polisher and recipe IV from the link might well do the trick.
