Alas the p*nct*re Fairy has found me. Returned to cycling around 6 months ago so I think i've done well tbh. It was typical it happened when I foolishly hadn't bothered to take my spare tubes and tools with me.

I feel like a proper cyclist now though, so onward and upward.

Happy new year all.

My first ride of 2011 on New year's day saw me with two visits!

A sound lesson learned for me thats for sure. I was only 4 miles from home but luckily the 'My other half' recovery service was in operation!

Fact of cycling life in my experience, you get no punctures for ages and then you get a spate of them in a short space of time so be prepared.

I don't understand. Does anynone not not ride with two tyres on the rim? On the Langster I have a normal road slick and over that a MTB slick that is filled with magic foam to fill the gaps. Can't remember the last time I had a puncture.

Last time I did that was over 20 years ago when I used to fit two tyres on each wheel on my road bike, cannot remember how I did it but it reduced punctures.

Just accept in your head that you are already standing in the pissing down freezing rain fixing a flat.

Everything else is a bonus after that.

Due to the alarming regularity of p*nct*res I now use wooden hoops! To reduce rolling resistance I use different types of wood varnish for differing terrains!
