And if you change your mind along the way you can detour onto the 100km route, which cuts out the more challenging climbing.

I'm looking forward to it, have never done the distance before, and heve never done close to the distance at medal speed before, so a real challenge coming up. It's OK though, Rob has promised us good weather.

Well there are some – the last 40 miles have got some really challenging ones – there is about 1720 meters of climbing!!! So not too shabby for a fenland inhabitant ;)

I have done 60 miles before easily (done 85 but in flat Cambridge) so am not scared of the 60 miler route and want a challenge so I will try doing the 100 miler in 7 hours to get the medal! ;)

I jest.

There is one hill at Saintbury. It's a short 18% about 1/4 mile long.

Getting off and walking won't put a too large a dent in your average.

One other thing to mention is the last 2 miles is round Stratford's by-pass, across some main roads and through an industrial estate. There won't be many safe places to sprint for time. The realistic 'end' is the T junction at Clifford Chambers. The remainder of the route is car-busy.

The industrial estate could have sharp objects scattered around.

Rob the organiser here - just to put your minds at rest on a few points ... perhaps ...

1 The "industrial estate" bit is perhaps over-stated for "sharp objects" ... it's actually the bus route for the Park & Ride so maintained and swept - and it's "light industry" ... we don't have any blast furnaces in Stratford!

2 The way the route is designed you can take some options along the way - if you have entered the 100 mile, there's a bail-out option to do the 100km instead (avoids Saintbury Hill ... and another one that nobody has mentioned yet - it still does the 1 in 6 bit with a hairpin bend  ) - or if you are really wanting to wimp out there's a short link that chops the route to 50 miles or so.

3 Saintbury is an interesting hill - it's not really that steep, it just goes on a bit. (I have done it on my fixie, just the once and I did rest half way up ... that's before pushing my lungs back under my ribcage when I got to the top!)

4 Weather .... I'm typing this whilst kneeling and praying!

It looks like being a grand day out from the numbers we have so far ... and watch the website on Weds 2 Sept for a news item about someone quite well-known that is riding.

Thanks for the info - I will pass it on to my clubmates that are also riding the event.

I really hope the weather is decent!
Not asking for a sunny day – just as long as the winds are not horrible and that there is no rain I will be very happy!

Quick heads up - entries for the 100 miler have had to be closed (we are at the limit for the Feed Station ladies) .. still OK to enter the 100Km - we're hoping that we can keep that open right the way through and take on the day entries.

Doh, that's a shame. I have just done the Manchester 100 mile and loved it so thought I might try another whilst the weather is still ok.

Will they open up entries for the 100 miler or is that it? Quite fancy really testing myself this time!

Right, I've got my GPS programmed and I'm heading south with my bike!

The forecast is looking good for the weekend. I haven't made my mind up whether to go round as fast as I can (sportive mode) or just tootle round and take lots of photographs of the scenery (audax mode). I'll probably wait until Sunday morning and see what my legs feel like, and how windy it is. Good legs and little wind -> sportive mode. Poor legs and windy conditions -> audax mode.

If anybody spots me, say hello. I'll be wearing a black jersey and black shorts with red side panels, probably lightweight legwarmers too, and Blue/Black MET helmet with a peak. Bit like this...

I'll be riding my (blue) Basso.

Have a good ride folks! ;)
