If the weather isn t too bad going to ride from home West Wales to the Hants Bimble and then back to Swansea for work on monday morning. I do have a tried and trusted route for the outward leg. That goes through Yate Castle Coombe Chipenham Devizes and Andover. A change would be nice and wondered if anybody had any suggestions ?

Also the return route from Romsey to Swansea bearing in mind that I will be leaving Romsey around 6pm on sunday and need to be back in Swansea for 8am monday morning. So a flat direct route would be much appreciated.

With no specific exerperience of a route going this way, I'd probably do something like this:-

Aust, Olveston, Rudgeway, Chipping Sodbury, Acton Turville, Yatton Keynell, Chippenham, A4, A342 to Rowde, Devizes, Lydeway, over Salisbury Plain via Tilshead, Larkhill, Bulford, short bit of A303 past Amesbury, Cholderton, the various Wallops, Stockbridge and down to Winchester.

Again, no experience of these roads, I can imagine the A342 over Salisbury Plain is going to be quite busy.

~1150m climbing in 133km is undulating but not too hilly. You're not going to get a flat/direct route.

I have done to and from Bristol. In partic I can recommend a great route from Warminster to Winchester. I have done it (from WInchester to Warminster and back) twice in the past couple of months see here http://ridewithgps.com/routes/362439 - the bit parallel to the A36 is particurlarly stunning

When I went to Bristol I took this route from Warminster (approx). http://ridewithgps.com/routes/472408 It has the downside of a few miles on the A36 but it is quite wide. You then follow the canal to Bath and the cyclepath all the way to Bristol. This avoids the MASSIVE hills in the Bath area

Thanks JC I like the look of the Salisbury to Warminster section ( comming from Romsey ). The Bath section would be nice, but I will be riding at night with deep section aero wheels and Pro 3 s so im guessing it probably wont be suitable.

Hi lukesdad, I'm planning to ride down to Romsey from Chippenham. I'm not sure how many options there are rout-wise if you want to get across Slisbury plain avoiding traffic - although I suppose the roads should be fairly quiet at stupid o'clock when I set off though
