Most things can be checked at the same time as your weekly/regular clean, every 6/12 months do a more thorough job including stripping things down and re-greasing etc.

Halfords provide the first service free dude. However if this is your 2nd service and are doing it yourself, youtube is awesome for this
i sometimes get parts from hellfrauds but wouldn't let anyone of those monkeys near my baby! weather i pay for it or they pay me for it!:stop:
Cheers Ed

Me neither. Not any more anyway !
The one near me is useless.
don't recommend it then!

it's a shame because from what i have heard and what my mates with them say and the few odd metres i have ridden one their bikes are half decent but they employ monkeys!
Cheers Ed

The bikes are good. You have the likes of the boardmans which are top notch then the carrera which is a decent entry level roadie. .
But the quality of staff vary across the UK. I reckon trained chimps could replace the staff in my local halfrauds and do a better job

Gears (adjustment and movement), chain stretch and wear (you can buy a tool to check this), brake block wear, rim trueness and wear, cable wear. Oil and clean everything.

You may also like to check head bearings, pedal bearings and the bottom bracket for wear (and looseness). Oil and grease appropriate moving parts. Finally check your tyres for wear.

This is a quick but not exhaustive check list. I'm sure others will add to it.
I wouldn't know how to check the gear adjustments or rim trueness is there a guide ?
