I'm looking to put some semi slicks on my MTB can any one recommend a make. Don't necessarily have to be the cheapest. I want a good sturdy hardwearing pair that will last me a good few miles.

Depends on how "semi" you need your slicks.

If your riding is almost entirely on-road then Schwalbe City Jets are cracking tyres, or Marathon/Marathon+ if you want seriously heavy puncture resistance (and seriously heavy tyres too).

If you want to retain a modest amount of off-road grip whilst still making tarmac less painfull then I think you would be hard pressedto beat Schwalbes Land-Cruiser range. They have a smooth raised centre tread thats ideal on tarmac, but retain enough "knoblyness" for decent grip on anything except in proper muddy conditions.

Mainly road with short cuts off road.

The ' Schwalbe Marathon' Ones look pretty tough and I think reflected in the price I'll make a note of these

These look pretty good value for money too and on Chain Reaction Cycles.com they have a small discount off them too so I've bookmarked these. Am I right in believing that most of the drag comes from the rear wheel? could I get away with just changing this one for a semi slick and leave a fast knobbly on the front!?

Conti Travel Contact rolls well on tarmac, with some grip off road. Seems hardwearing as well, mine are 26 x 1.75 dont know if they do other sizes.

I put some Continental Sport Contacts on one bike with some Continental Town and Country's on the other.....

Sport Contacts dont look kinda right (but they work) whereas the T&C's 'look' a whole lot better...

No complaints from either if I am honest.....

I have these on my MTB, great on roads and still enough grip off. No punctures since fitted over 1100 miles ago.

I have Michelins that are basically street tyres with a few diagonal sipes and a sharp shoulder, 26 x 1.5, grip OK in all but thick mud, roll very well, don't seem to wear at all in over 1000 miles, and are resistant to the punc**** fairy. I recently used them on an on/off road tour, they were great.
