I have been trying to sell a couple of good quality bicycles on Gumtree at what I consider to be a reasonable price and I have not had no buyers only a couple of offers which I have turned down . I thought that selling bikes on Gumtree was easy enough

Have you ever sold or bought a bike on Gumtree ? if you have let me know about it

why not advertise them in the for sale section on here ??

According to the advert, selling on gumtree and Spock or whatever...is simple if you are an attractive 22 year old blonde female looking to flog a charge plug for £60.

Perhaps this is where you are going wrong.

@Wester i use gumtree to advertise bikes i have for sale and have noticed over the last year that i am also not getting the response i use to get , and looking at the amount of repeat adverts i am not alone

Preloved is or use to be good but i got my account suspended as they classified my adverts as trade sales ??

i have used e bay but the fees put me off from using it more

Cyclechat and other cycling forums are other places i try with mixed results

i think in general the 2 nd hand bike market is a bit quiet because you can walk into halfords amongst others and walk out again with a new bike quite cheaply

I think may be to do with the flood of cheap new bikes from China, most would probably buy one of them rather than going second hand, unless they are enthusiasts. Down here you can get a reasonable 'home used' bike for between $50/100. The shopping mall stores are selling new Chinese bikes for $100/150, alloy frame and wheels, Shimano shifters.

I tend to use eBay but this isn't really bike-buying time unless people are looking for cheap 'winter' bikes or are students.

Gumtree, who are owned by eBay, appears to be losing traffic and customers to Shpock and others.
