A mate of mine had his front forks and handlebars nicked and asked me how he could stop it happening again. I've no idea, so thought I'd ask here. Not optimistic about recovering a set of stock forks, so no point posting this in Stolen.

The bike is a Giant Terrago, if it makes a difference to the relative nickability of the parts. Though looking at it, looks like they were willing to go to a fair bit of effort to detach the front wheel, forks and handlebars to get round the locks.

Forget it - sometimes things are in the "just not your lucky day" category.

I'd should have thought the chances of that happening again are pretty slim, and short of drilling/brazing etc, there's not a lot you can do.

If someone is motivated enough to strip a bike, there's not too much you can do about it other than lock the bike properly. Not sure from description if this was the case.

Of course, ideally you lock a bike in an area that is frequented by ordinary folk, which discourages thievery.

Thanks. I didn't see it locked, his description was a cable through front wheel/frame, cable through back/wheel frame and D-lock through frame/bike rack.

I can't see any way you could secure the forks to anything if someone is willing to take the wheel off completely. Seems a lot of effort to take some stock forks, guess someone really wanted them.

Was it in Norwich? I heard there has been a marked increase in cycle crime around the city recently, particularly near the Forum.

Can't be too hard - all you need is an allen key set and pair of pliers.

No, not sure where it was nicked from. He works in London but lives in Loughton so it would be one of those.

Doesn't surprise me about stuff being nicked in Norwich, I see a lot of nice bikes with locks like shoelaces, around the Playhouse especially.

I'll pass on the Pinhead link, thanks.
