Secteur Bar Tape

Hi Guys

I have a 2010 Secteur Elite and Im thinking about getting some shallow drop bars (or compact) my question is my current handlebars (ergo) are VERY padded on the tops I like this its nice and comfy. My question is why are they so padded is it one of those gel pad jobbies (bar phat) or special thick tape?. I just wanna know so I can purchase some before I rip all the tape of my bars unless it can be reused?

I know its a n00b question but I dont wanna mess with my current bars till im ready to change and I dont wanna not have all the bits for when I do change.

It's jelly like pads under the tape and they are re-usable.

Are they stuck down or just held in place by the tape? and is the tape just bog standard cork tape?

According to the specs on the Spesh site for the 2010 model, they use "Specialized S-Wrap, cork ribbon w/ 2.5 gel pads". There are some errors in the specs on that site so I wouldn't bet my house on it, but it might give a starting point.

they are sticky anyway.. like robust jelly.
Just be careful when you take the old tape off.
Bog standard Cinelli is the tape of my choice.
It's an easy enough job.... if you take your time.

You can't find the 2010 models using the menu system. But I saved the URL from when I was looking last year, and they haven't taken the pages down. You can find them with Google too.

I don't think so, I just took it as a picture of someone who did look hard enough - hard enough to crush grapes without taking the skin off first, anyway.

you will get used to my odd sense of humour , i would never intentionally flame or make rude comments .

Another option is to double wrap with standard tape like they do for the cobbled classics, i have done my commuter like that as i have very bad country roads to negotiate.
