Do you tell people?

I see one particular guy most Sundays on the canal towpath towards Skipton, he is nearly kneeing himself in the chops. At first it was funny but then it began to irritate me so yesterday I thought I'd help him out, maybe make his cycling more enjoyable and less painful and so I told him that his seat was too low. He said "What the f**k has it got to do with you" and wobbled off:laugh:

Maybe his reaction was to the way you told him his seat was too low.

Nope, I politely told him that it was too low and that he would find it a lot easier if it was raised to suit his legs. I'd say that he was about 6', the bike is an Apollo MTB, 18" max and the seat is on the post, I find it painful just to watch him.

Maybe he'll have it raised by next weekend! I suppose also it's just possible there's some reason why this is more comfortable for him but that wouldn't excuse him snapping at you.

I think this is a style thing, or at least a misunderstanding of a style thing.

BMX tend to have very low seats, and several manufacturers do jump bikes which have a MTB style frame and 26" wheels but a very low seat and very short seat post. I see chavs cycling around all the time on knackered Halfrauds specials with their knees round their ears; I think they're copying that jump bike style, but probably not understanding it's specifically for jump riding.

it's like the "hip-hop massive" having their jeans slung low around their arse.
Not many of them will understand that it's because gangsters in america did it out of respect for a 'brutha' in prison, where belts were banned for suicide reasons. But they still do it, and it's not for you to tell them not to.

So, while his method of cycling was perhaps "wrong", his comeback was, albeit rude, correct: what has it got to do with you?

Therein lies the answer

Damn Chavs

agree with this, I see loads of fellas riding low, no lights, on pavements - grown men! and for some reason i dont think that they bought their bike from their LBS more like their 'local'.

Or off 5 year olds. I often see blokes riding along the pavement and the bike is tiny, so small they can't even sit down on it
