i noticed some time ago i was sitting well back on my seat, ive got a large frame and at 6'2" close to 17stone im glad to have an oversized ruged bike, carrera subway2.

So i decided to move my seat backwards as much as i could, i also angled it slightly down as this seemed to be good avdive on here.

been for a ride and still sat back on the seat, im wondering now if im doing it becuase that place is more comfortable or the top tube could be longer for me? my feeling is i find the seat more comfy in that position. the angle was strange, felt like i was slipping off even though its a slight angle

should i persevere? angle it flat again? is this normal to sit well back? are there bikes with longer top tubes? its a 22" frame? i tend to use the end bars which are angled forward, overall the bike is comfy and great, i love it

You should set your saddle setback to get the angle of your leg right , knee over pedal axle when the leg is at 3 oclock is generally about right.

If you feel cramped still then maybe you should look at putting a longer stem on rather than altering your saddle position, if you are liding forward i would stick the saddle back to level and see how it feels.

Depends on the angle of the stem you have and how many spacers you have above or below the stem .

If you are happy with the set back i would just level off your saddle and see how it feel for a few rides before changing anything else.

Saddle set back is dependent on the length of your leg and how you pedal so everyone is different , many prefer to have the seat well back and other like to have it well forward .As long as it is comfortable i do not think there is a definite right or wrong unless you are getting injuries because of the set up.

As for how far forward or back you sit on the seat, I'm not sure it matters all that much. I sit WELL back on my seat (my bum goes over the edge of the seat), and always have done, on whichever bike I've had. I don't know why i do this, but sitting (what i think is) 'properly' on my seat doesn't 'feel' right. It's not very comfortable for me even though its the way most people (and the pros) sit.
I never get any chafing or anything, it just seems to be the way i ride, and it seems to work ok. I wouldn't worry about how far back / forward you are on the seat too much, unless you're getting pain / numbness in your nether regions!

no im pretty good, just feel the top tube could be longer, not sure why, maybe worrying about nothing as the bike is a great fit imo

thanks for the reassurance though, cheers
