After tracking one stolen bike from the City of London to a plant hire business in east London detectives found 60 more worth £130,000+.
The two scumbags running the operation have now been jailed, mind not for long .

Hopefully other forces will now sit up and take note. Maybe even realise that "It's just a bike." isn't really an answer to theft.

Up this way they raided two houses a few got £80k in bikes and parts plus a lot of the Bulgarians running the fencing gang. A good few years ago and my bike was probably among them. Despite marked and registered with a police scheme and various other online registers too I never got it back. Police didn't even know about their own bike register scheme!

They do investigate but I reckon only if there's evidence of bike theft being significant.

They must have been worth more than £2000 each. Those must be the new values, not used.
Or an average price, given some were in the five-figure price range.
Then there'll be the parts to include. Either way it shows what can be done.

Don't forget this was from the City of London, some of those traders wouldn't be seen dead drunk on a £2k bike so likely be high end machines

I once saw someone driving through Ambleside in a porsche 911 with a roof rack carrying two very high end bikes. Only one person in the car. I suspect he must have brought two bikes to choose from for the sportive he had been on. I'm sorry but no need for that!

"Police have so far returned more than 20 of the [78] bikes to their owners."

Which shows how important it is to record your serial numbers and report thefts with serial numbers.

......... Have i recorded mine..... Probably, as a photo, somewhere.

I registered with specialised, various cycle registration services and Lancashire constabulary registration scheme. When the police officer called me for details she did not know anything about registration schemes including the one operated by her own force! I didn't get my bike back despite the local bike band got nicked shortly after my bike was stolen and they seized beat part put £90k in bikes.
