Just bought the afore mentioned forks, not even ridden on, and the headset finally gives in. So I take it to the lbs, who did a sterling job fitting a nice hope one...
So with boyish excitement, I scratch the stanchion putting it in the car.
After regaining the will to live, checked a few forums, and filled the scratch last night with epoxy after tidying it up a bit. Then sanded back with 2000 grit wet and dry this morning.
You can still see the little gouges, as its clear epoxy. But its rock solid and smooth as, can't really feel any difference to the rest of the metal.
Just thought I'd post the fix, in case any beginners like me start putting holes in their forks. All does not seem lost...
