Scott Aspect 45

Finally caved in to "n+1 syndrome" as a result of the end of season sales, and bought a Scott Aspect 45 reduced by £100 to £450 at http://www.hargrovescycles.co.uk/ . Have been looking at a return to light mountain biking for a while. At age 48 I don't need anything too fancy as I wont be going jumping off anything over 6" , so this bike should suit me just fine.

I hope it arrives before next weekend since I'm on holiday for a week and can get out to play on the 7 stanes. First thing I'll be doing is loosening off the hubs and headset and greasing them properly after my recent woes with my Tricross.

Only 6 or so more sleeps (did I say I was 48? Is it too old to be a big kid? ).

No, it is definitely OK to get excited about a new bike. I too have fallen victim to n+1: I have been watching some nice bikes on Ebay for a while now, and finally found what I was looking for. I spotted a 21" Claud Butler Cape Wrath 2009 D27 with a Buy It Now price of £250. It had a few accessories on it, such as a frame bag, pump, and bottle cage. I took the plunge and clicked. I collected it yesterday, and am really happy with it. The bike was claimed to have been ridden only a handful of times, and the condition verifies this. I am chuffed with the price; another 2009 Cape Wrath is currently at £320 with two days left, and it has had much more use. I reckon I have a bargain.

I am 53 and eagerly anticipating getting back into exactly the kind of riding that you plan to do. One of my aims is to take my new dog out on the fire roads of Thetford Forest and train her to run alongside me for some exercise.

I am up to four bikes now and wondering when I will stop lusting after more machinery. I have a flat-barred road-biased hybrid thing, a folder, a recumbent trike, and now a MTB; I reckon there is only a drop-barred road bike left before I have the whole set and am doomed to start duplicating types of bike.
