I thought the idea was that a stage went through a bordering country. England and Ireland are pushing the definition a bit, but Scotland is separated from France not only by the sea, but another country.

The tour will follow the money, which will, to a degree, follow the crowds. The question is - will Scotland pay up, and will a million people or more turn out to watch? That seems like a big ask.

I don't think that's the idea at all. Anyway, did you not read the link? "...there's also been audacious and ambitious plans for the east coast of America, even the Middle East and Japan."

Did you not read the link? "Chief executive of the national events agency, Paul Bush, said the time-trial stage would cost about £5m to host - but could bring £100m in to Scotland." Of course Scotland would pay up and to be frank - where or earth did you get the idea that it wouldn't?

Banter, aside... It is a bit unfair on the riders taking them that far away from France. It means a very long transfer for them, and potentially using up one of only 2 rest days very early on when they don't need a rest!

I think its wrong, it should be, and i always though it was meant to be a boarding country like Yellow said. If it turns into a money thing, then it will end up like F1 and go to all the Arab oil states, then what good is that. It will ruin the tour. Then again, how in the hell could it start there, or the east coast of the US, and then continue the next day in France with the riders relaxed.
