went to my LBS yesterday to enquire about how much for a pair of these to be bought fitted (present from santa!) was quoted £62 for tyres plus £4 each for tubes, does this sound reasonable?
the fitting was free of charge so the price qouted was just to purchase the items

Basic marathons can be had for less online, maybe £22 each.
Have a shop around, I find the LBS are good for some things but tyrea tend to be full price.

I think i bought one (M+) from wiggle for about £26 and one from highonbikes for about £23, the highonbikes one was folded into a kinda figure of 8 which meant the sidewalls were weird and out of shape though which annoyed me, wiggle shipped it fullsize in a big bag. £31 a tyre is full RRP iirc so rather expensive, probably depends on whether you think fitting & any convenience of LBS is worth paying an extra £10-15.

http://www.highonbikes.com/schwalbe-marathon-plus-road-bike-tyres.html I probably wouldnt buy from them again, but an example of cheaper price (£23.50 inc shipping). £26 at winstanleys, £28 at wiggle (but theres often £5 off over £50).

Certainly not excessive pricing if you have read the stories about how hard they are to fit!

Here's a tip....
Don't try to use your car key as an impromptu tyre lever. It f***s the rim, and f****s the car key. Lesson learnt yesterday

didn't realise they were harder than other tyres to put on, although the bloke in the video made it look easy! dont fancy struggling at the side of the road to repair a flat, or are they as puncture proof as my LBS said. has anyone suffered a flat with these?

They do get slightly easier once they've been on for a while, but they really are tough as old boots and many people on here have done 000's of miles without ever having to take them off, myself included.

Marathon winters are also a complete b*llocks to fit....especially as your hands are already cold. I favour multiple expletives at high volume, especially when I missed the square staple in the tyre (2miles from work, 13 miles from home)

Winter punctures.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........roll on spring
